3 HIP MOVES FOR HIP PAIN!

Its been a while since I posted so here I am again!
.
3 moves using a heavy resistance band. Before you start any of these moves, asses your hip pain with any movement that provokes it.
.
Then, perform Move 1: Axial distraction, 1 set of 20 reps and then, check youe hip pain or ROM and notice if it got better or not. If not, do Move 2: All Four Posterior Hip Distraction, 10 reps sitting back onto your calf and then forward and then do 10 reps of hip circles as shown in the video. Then recheck your hip pain. Still no good? Then do Move 3: lateral hip distraction doing 10 reps of squats. Recheck hip pain again.

If any of these moves have you great relief and more flexibility, ad it to your rehab routine and warm up before lifting.
.
If no change on any of these, then its less likely to be a hip joint problem and possibly more of a muscle or nerve problem, or even both

Here my good friend and MLB player @mason_thompson22 sharing his experience with the work we've done this off-season! Mason went through 2 Tommy John surgeries that left him with elbow and especially shoulder pain. He went from throwing 100+ mph down to 50-60 mph no matter what kind of rehab and training he'd do. $HOW A 10 YEAR OLD SPINAL FRACTURE AFFECTS CURRENT SYMPTOMS!! . . My athlete here came to me for a session complaining of: 1) Right side lower back pain 2) Neck stiffness 3) Left shoulder pain . Upon history taking, he suffered an L4 spinal fracture 10+ years ago, so I opted to see if there was a relation to his current symptoms. . I assessed his skin and fascia around that old fracture site, and I felt a restriction in those tissues when pulling horizontally to the right. I then help the tissues in that restricted direction, and then his ROM, tension, and pain reduced significantly. This is where I use Kinesio Tape to maintain the tissues in that direction and then guide him through some spinal mobility work. . Your past injuries REALLY matter! No matter how old they are! . PELVIC FLOOR REHAB!!

This weekend, I went on IG Live to discuss my thoughts on Pelvic Floor Rehab.
.
Pelvic Floor rehab is a very interesting subject due to various different methods and beliefs that are being performed by "Pelvic Floor specialists". Don't get me wrong, I truly believe that these specialists are very much necand valuable although, in my own opinion and experience, certain things that these specialists do may be a bit too extreme and a big aggressive. These methods, as well as the tools they use, indeed may be very useful in certain and extreme situations, but often time unnecessary.
.
For example, one of the most common exercises prescribed by Pelvic Floor therapists is Kegel exercises! Yes, they are great exercises BUT, if we solely focus on just squeezing, and squeezing and squeezing Pelvic Floor muscles, wouldn't it make sense that these muscles may remain tight/toned causing another host of issues.
.
In this Live I went a little more in-depth on what I've learned over the past year and have seen tremendous results by focusing alot more on relaxation of Pelvic Floor muscles and how they also affect areas away from the Pelvic, such as the neck.
.

STRETCH OR NO STRETCH FOR INJURED HAMSTRINGS??

Ever suffered a hamstring injury that was bad enough that you would constantly stretch it, only to make it feel worse? Well, maybe stretching is not a good idea then! It's no brainer!
.
In fact, experientially, maybe FULLY contracting it may be a better option. I may be wrong for some people, but it usually gives much better relief than stretching!
.

$THE CRASH SITE THAT INFLUENCED ME! . In 2005, it was the year that changed my life in a single night. 2 days into vacation and after partying with my friends (no, I wasn't intoxicated) , I lost control over my motorcycle at this sharp turn and fell off the cliff and got wedged between those boulders. . This was approximately 3 am. with no light (except the moonlight), and no one around to hear me for help. I was literally screaming for almost an hour and still no one around. Plus, how can they even see me? I'm all the way down there anyway! Say it was an adrenaline rush or whatever, I had the strength to climb back up with my bare hands just so I could get back on the road for someone to find me. I made it up. Yet still no one around. Back then, I had one of those Nokia phone where their batteries could last for 2 weeks. That dam thing was still working! I was able to call my mother, but because I had collapsed lung from 8 broken ribs as well as a broken spine, I was still able to mumble the words "come find me." . That night, the city had a power outtage, which was a common thing on this island. So the little urgent care we had was unable to take any xrays or whatever, all they did was put a catheter in me and we had to wait for the next flight to the nearby island that had a descent hospital. . . Most of you already know the story, but to make it short, I suffered a spinal cord injury that left me unable to use my legs for more than 2-3 months and was confined in a wheelchair. Due to that spinal cord injury is where I grew an obsession to learn neurology and biomechanics as well as respiratory therapy in order to fix myself and be able to feel my legs and walk again. So I admitted myself into PT school, and that became my calling. That's how I became who I am today. .
